  • Built at a cost of $10,000, the house was considered remarkably advanced for 1892, featuring electricity, a telephone, and indoor plumbing. At the time, indoor plumbing was still a luxury, and homeowners often showcased their bathrooms near the entrance as a symbol of wealth and modern convenience.

  • After Mr. Adams’ death in 1934, his wife closed the house and left it unoccupied for nearly 60 years.

  • The house was purchased in 1992 by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, carefully restored by 1998, and is now operated as a museum.

  • Seth Bullock, the first appointed sheriff of Lawrence County, lived in one of the first fine homes built in Deadwood, located just a few doors down from the Adams House. In the 1970s, the house was moved uphill to its current location using horses and cast-iron rollers. Today, it serves as a private residence.
